Klaus is shown to be quiet and shy initially, choosing to keep to himself rather than involve himself with other people in the unit. He enjoys reading and hides anti-war sentiment. When he becomes engrossed in a problem or mystery, he often lacks tact. He was often bullied by Derik Stein and Wilhelm Fischer before he was promoted from private to lance corporal. He was friends with Otto Vogt and is friends with Emilia Bergmann. He has a curious, inquisitive, and open nature, causing him to want to get to the bottom of Werner's True Conductor status.
